Our Goal:
To better understand risk and protective factors for dementia through a more equitable lens that captures Canadians from different backgrounds


Target Population
Individuals who identify with:
-
Chinese
-
South Asian
-
Non-Hispanic White
Eligibility
-
Adults aged 55–85 who identify as Chinese, South Asian, or Non-Hispanic White
-
Not diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or another cognitive disorder
-
No major neurological (e.g., stroke, Parkinson's disease) or psychiatric condition (e.g., untreated major depressive disorder, schizophrenia)
-
No active cancer

Compensation
At each in-person visit, participants receive:

$50 cash
-
Snack voucher for use at the Sunnybrook food court

Free parking

STUDY DETAILS
-
Study duration: 5 years
-
In-person research components: Two visits to Sunnybrook every other year (Year 1, Year 3, Year 5)
-
Remote research components: Complete questionnaires from home in Year 2 and Year 4

IN-PERSON RESEARCH: YEAR 1, YEAR 3, YEAR 5

Tasks assessing memory and thinking abilities
-
Questionnaires about background and health
-
A fasting blood draw
-
A brain MRI scan
-
A vital signs assessment (blood pressure, height, weight)

A short walking and balance assessment
The above research components are completed in Year 1, 3, and 5 - over two visits

REMOTE RESEARCH: YEAR 2, YEAR 4
